Since I have been posting articles regarding skincare, I find it important to share my daily skincare routine to give some background on how I treat my skin on a daily basis. I make sure to always allocate time for skincare in the morning before work or school, because I naturally have oily and acne-prone skin. My daytime Korean skincare routine typically consists of 7 steps (although I do skip out on some steps depending on how I feel about my skin that day).
1. Oil Cleanser
I treat oil cleanser as an optional step during the day depending on how refreshed my skin feels upon waking up. Typically, I can get by with solely using a good gel cleanser in the morning. However, sometimes I like using my oil cleanser in the morning after wearing a lot of make-up the day before or if I think my skin is excessively dirty or oily.
For those unfamiliar with two-step cleansing, an oil-based cleanser helps bring excess sebum and makeup to the skin surface. They come in various forms, such as oils, creams, or gels. To help reduce excess sebum, dermatologists recommend to double cleanse in the morning (even if there is no makeup on your skin).

2. Gel Cleanser – COSRX Morning Gel Cleanser
I absolutely adore my COSRX Morning Gel Cleanser because it is gentle on my skin and does a good job of making sure I feel refreshed and clean in the morning. Not only is this gel cleanser affordable, but it is also a good quality cleanser. It is versatile and gentle, and can be used as a cleanser for all skin types. For first timers using this product, do not be alarmed when this cleanser does not foam. Even though it does not appear to be foaming (which is often associated with the cleaning process), this cleanser does an amazing job of removing dirt and sweat. I would highly recommend this cleanser as part of a two-step cleansing process or even just by itself.

3. Toner – Son and Park Beauty Water
After hearing the hype around the Son and Park Beauty Water, I decided to splurge and purchase it one day. This toner absolutely changed my skin care regimen because it has the properties of a moisturizing toner, yet it also does a great job of cleaning leftover makeup that my cleanser fails to remove. Because of this product’s gentle cleaning properties, I feel more comfortable skipping the double cleansing step in my routine (and solely use a gel cleanser). This product leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean, and I love starting off my day with this product.

I absolutely adore COSRX products, and one of my favorites from them would definitely be the Advanced Snail Mucin Essence. This essence does an amazing job of reducing skin inflammation while also having moisturizing properties. I’ve noticed that my acne has subsided considerably after starting this essence and would recommend it to anyone who is struggling with breakouts.

I like to apply Body Shop’s Anti-Imperfection Daily Solution because it has helped slowly clear up my skin. I first purchased this serum several years ago because it contains tea tree oil, which has properties that help clear acne. The employees at the Body Shop recommended this product for my skin type and I have been a loyal fan ever since. In the morning, I apply two-three drops of this serum all over my face after applying my essence.

During the day, I like to opt for lighter acne creams and medications for my skin. While I was in Korea, I purchased the Nature Republic Bee Venom Spot treatment to help cure my breakouts and I absolutely fell in love with the product. The acne cream is thin and allows my skin to breathe, and it does a good job of controlling redness and irritation.

7. SPF – Biore UV Aqua Sunscreen
Before leaving my apartment for school or work, I always make sure to apply a layer of sunblock. Proper sun protection is essential for long-term skin health and will help prevent sunburn, sun spots, and other discoloration. When I was younger, I would skip out on the sunscreen because the brands I used were too oily or greasy for my skin, which would cause breakouts. However, after purchasing several brands of sunscreen while I was in Japan, I found that the Biore UV Aqua Sunscreen was perfect for my skin type. A thin layer of this sunscreen does a great job of protecting my skin against the elements and does not cause any breakouts. My favorite characteristic about this sunscreen’s consistency is that it does not leave an unnatural, ghostly white cast.
